    New Build

If this is a new build you will need to know the following...

    1. What is the heat loss of your dwelling in kWh?
    2. What size of heat pump do you need?

    Retrofit

If this is a retrofit there are a number of things you will need to know before choosing a Heat Pump...

    1. What is the heat loss of your dwelling in kWh?
    2. Have you reduced or removed all drafts and cold bridges where possible?
    3. Have you had the heating system balanced?
    4. Have you cleaned the heating system in the last 5 years? This can easily be achieved by replacing the water and removing the sludge.
    5. Have you checked that your radiators will work efficiently with a Heat Pump?

Note: You should carry out 2,3 & 4 as it will make your heating system more efficient and save you money even if you don't install a heat pump.

    Celtic Renewables - Combination Tank

    New Build

When planning a new build it is always a good idea to locate the heat pump close to the tank. This reduces losses in the system due to long runs between the heat pump and the  tank. Do not worry if you cannot achieve this as all pipes leading from and returning to the heat pump are lagged so that losses are kept to a minimum.  If long runs can be avoided, so much the better.

    Retrofit

    If this is a retrofit there are a number of things you will need think about in respect to installing a combination tank;

    1. Do you need to change the tank? Check if your current tank is suitable for your new heat pump before rushing off and buying a new one.
    2. If you have to change the tank, is the space where the current tank is big enough for the new tank (the combination tank tends to be taller than a water storage tank)?
    3. If you don't have a tank (e.g. you have a combi-boiler installed), where are you going to fit the tank?
    4. Have you checked with a plumber that your plan will work?

Note: Before you start out on this journey, make sure your plumber is very familiar with the installation and operation of a Heat Pump.

The heat pump is only one part of  a system that needs to work together to realise the potential efficiencies/savings that can be realised by installing a heat pump.
